Kenosha, WI – February 12, 2018 – The Teen Center attendance at the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha has reached an all-time high at 100 members. Over the past two years, average daily attendance in the Teen Center has been steadily increasing.
During the 2015/2016 school year, the average daily attendance was 22 members. In 2016/2017, that rose to 28.5. Currently, the average daily attendance in the Teen Center is 64.
BGCK Director of Teen Services, Kharis Gordon, provides insight to these growing numbers, “I believe the increase in our attendance correlates strongly with the increased quality of our Club programs and our recruiting efforts. Once a month we send a recruitment team to different school lunches, set up an informational table and eat lunch with current and potential members.”
“We also use social media like Snapchat and Facebook to promote our programs and to allow our Club members to invest into the Club when they’re not here,” said Gordon.
Since the beginning of the 2016 school year, the Teen Center has seen 78 new members through its doors.
Over the last year, a number of new programs were started to better service the teens. Those include the creation of a travel basketball team, drum, guitar and dance lessons, college tours and themed parties.
“My favorite thing to do here is play for the traveling basketball team,” said BGCK teen member, Eugene Dale. “This helps me stay out of trouble and work on my game for my school and other travel basketball teams.”
Member Aaliyah Cobbins tells why she attends regularly, “I come here because the staff keeps everyone out of trouble. They always have activities for us to do, they keep us active and make sure we do our school work. They make the Club feel fun and safe.”
Due to this rapid increase in attendance, the Club is in need of more staff and more supplies. Please consider donating to the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha Teen Center at www.BGCKenosha.org/donate.
